Battambang: HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, in charge of special missions, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee and Chairman of the Royal Government Task Force for Koas Kralor District, Battambang Province, and HE Bun Hun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior and First Vice-Chairman of the Royal Government Task Force for Koas Kralor District, on the morning of 7 January 2025, led the celebration of the 46th anniversary of the victory day on 7 January (7 January 1979 – 7 January 2025) in front of the Koas Kralor district market. Approximately 750 participants, including the Royal Government Task Forces for Koas Kralor District, civil servants, competent forces, teachers, students and residents in Koas Kralor district attended the event.

On that occasion, HE Keo Remy read the full message of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the King, President of the Senate and President of the Cambodian People’s Party, as follows: [“]Today marks the 46th anniversary of the historic victory of the Cambodian people over the genocidal regime of Pol Pot, which occurred on 7 January 1979 when the nation and its people were saved from an era characterised by extreme torture and mass killings that Cambodia has ever had in human history.[”]

Through this speech, HE Keo Remy said that, [“]7 January 1979 is the second birthday of the Cambodian people; without that pivotal day, the present would not exist. This is a historical truth that cannot be distorted and destroyed, as it stems from the sacrifices made by brave leaders, cadres, and Cambodian combatants. The past 46 years have been built on the solidarity and efforts of the Cambodian People’s Party, which has revitalised the nation from its ruins and fostered development across all areas. This foundation has enabled Cambodia to attain the significant goals, i.e. independence, peace, freedom, neutrality, democracy and progress.

At the same time, let us all pay our respects and tribute to the souls of the more than 3 million compatriots who were unjustly killed in the most brutal regime of 3 years, 8 months and 20 days. May their souls rest in peace.

Cambodia has now stood for 46 years in control of its country and destiny, confidently steering towards a more prosperous future in line with the nation’s long-term vision. From one generation to the next, the Royal Government of Cambodia has guided the nation to attain complete peace, national unity, and significant development at an impressive pace, especially during the mandate of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister and succeeded by Samdech Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.[”]

Apparently, Samdech has garnered extensive support from the populace, which clearly demonstrates their trust in his management and leadership, as well as [their endorsement] of the ongoing comprehensive reform process in all areas, based on unity, wisdom, talent, courage and perseverance, aimed at promoting positive societal change that enhances prosperity and improves the lives of individuals from all backgrounds.

On that occasion, he urged the people, especially the youth, who are–bamboo shoots–the future of Cambodia, to avoid drugs and the use of violence, and steer clear of both large and small gangs in society. [He] encouraged them to honour their ancestors and patriots by embracing their values and remembering historical truths. [He] called on them to commit to actively preserving the spirit of the 7 January victory to ensure its stability.
