Bangkok: HE Chin Angkearith, a member of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee and Director of the Regional and ASEAN Human Rights Department, participated in the “Regional Validation Workshop: Intersection of Disability and Trafficking” and “Dialogue on Addressing Trafficking in Persons Among Vulnerable Groups” on 21-23 January 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The workshop and dialogue were jointly organised by the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights in Thailand (AICHR-Thailand) and the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, Thailand (ACWC-Thailand), in collaboration with the Australian Government, under the auspices of the ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT), and support from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in order to validate the draft regional policy on the intersection of disability and trafficking in persons. The draft policy was extensively researched and national consultative workshops were held across six ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. At the same time, the dialogue will provide a platform for exchanging successful practice, experiences, sharing good lessons and challenges, focusing on key needs to address specific vulnerabilities for vulnerable populations, including women, children, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and ethnic groups (migrants).

The event was attended by AICHR representatives, representatives of the Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (SOMSWD), ACWC representatives, representatives of the Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMT), ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF) representatives, representatives from National Working Group/Council/ ASEAN Committee Against Trafficking in Persons, representatives of ASEAN civil society organisations (CSOs) working against human trafficking, including the Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and representatives of East Timor (ASEAN observers).
