HE Senior Minister Keo Remy Presided Over Solidarity Dinner with Tricycle Drivers
Phnom Penh: HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, in charge of special missions and President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), presided over a solidarity dinner with tricycle drivers, on Saturday morning, 8 March 2025, marking the 114th anniversary of International Women’s Day, at Tonle Bassac Restaurant 2. The event was attended by Excellencies, dignitaries, civil servants, lawyers of the CHRC, artists, and over 150 tricycle drivers.
HE Senior Minister Keo Remy expresses his gratitude to Samdech Techo, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, for his attention to tricycle drivers, providing free healthcare and creating a new conservation fund for them. The establishment of this fund supports the livelihoods of tricycle drivers and helps preserve tricycles, a symbol of Cambodian identity dating back to the French era. He added that celebrating the 114th anniversary of Women’s Day with a solidarity meal serves as a gesture of affection for tricycle drivers. Women possess equal rights and freedoms as men, not just today, in the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and further by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
He stated that today’s gathering showcases the generosity of dignitaries, civil servants, lawyers of the CHRC, and artists towards tricycle drivers, highlighting that they are not alone in this profession. This event also serves to promote tricycles, drawing attention from both national and international visitors, and helps preserve them from disappearing.
During the event, tricycle drivers displayed their joy and expressed a deep desire for tricycles to remain present in Cambodia.
To conclude, each tricycle driver received a donation of 15,000 riels in cash and a scarf, and they all enjoyed a delightful meal together in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
