The Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) and the Battambang Provincial Administration jointly organised a “Workshop on Dissemination of the National Report on the Implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)”
On the morning of Monday, 12 June 2023, the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) and the Battambang Provincial Administration jointly organised a “Workshop on Dissemination of the National Report on the Implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)” at the Battambang Provincial Hall. This workshop was chaired by His Excellency Keo Remy, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, and President of the CHRC, and His Excellency Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang Province, with the participation of the Provincial Court of First Instance, Prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutor of the Provincial Court of First Instance, Provincial Administration, Commissariat of Provincial Police, armed forces, representatives of district authorities and provincial prisons, and civil servants of Departments of Battambang Province.
On that occasion, His Excellency Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang Province, said that human rights may prevail as long as the country is in peace. Therefore, let’s maintain peace together. He advised all participants to attentively absorb knowledge about human rights and protect peace together so that we have human rights.
His Excellency Keo Remy stated that the Royal Government, under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has always shown a strong will to respect human rights. Cambodia has taken the lead in the region in respecting human rights, with no death penalty, the accession to eight out of the nine major human rights instruments, the acceptance of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and an OHCHR in Cambodia.
He added that the workshop aims to widely disseminate the national report on the Royal Government’s efforts to the sub-national level, along with major achievements in the protection and promotion of human rights in Cambodia. This dissemination enables sub-national units to better understand the National Report on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as its concluding observations, which is an important factor in promoting the participation of sub-national units in implementing those concluding observations. In addition, it demonstrates the regular implementation of the Royal Government’s international obligations as a United Nations Member State.
In conclusion, His Excellency Keo Remy thanked the Battambang Provincial Administration for jointly organising this important workshop. He also advised all participants to pay attention and pose questions related to this national report, including human rights general questions.
