The Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) has prepared and submitted an urgent appeal to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva,
In view of the violation of the fundamental freedoms of innocent Cambodians, the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) has prepared and submitted an urgent appeal to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Southeast Asia in Bangkok, Independent National Human Rights Institutions in the ASEAN region, as well as the rotating chair and representative of Malaysia-AICHR.
In the urgent appeal, the CHRC called for and raised a number of requests as follows:
1. Cease all hostile military activities and ensure the safety of Cambodian civilians.
2. Conduct an independent, impartial investigation and bring to justice these crimes.
3. Provide immediate medical care and compensation to the victims and their families.
4. Strengthen preventive measures and fully implement the agreed content of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement.
5. Raise the issue before the United Nations Human Rights Council or relevant special procedures.
6. Establish a UN fact-finding mission to assess the situation and prevent a recurrence.
7. Have Thailand release and repatriate the 18 Cambodian soldiers immediately and unconditionally.
