Her Excellency Ouch Nipon met with Ms Mak Monika
On the morning of Monday, 26 June 2023, on behalf of His Excellency Keo Remy, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister, and President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), Her Excellency Ouch Nipon, [CHRC] Member and Director General for Administration and Complaints, met with Ms Mak Monika, Executive Director of the Cambodian Disabled People’s Organisation (CDPO) to discuss and seek cooperation with regard to the rights of persons with disabilities.
During the meeting, Ms Mak Monika stated the following goals: (1) to share and disseminate the ASEAN [Enabling] Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Raising Awareness of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Free Health Services for the Vulnerable and Persons with Disabilities; and (2) Coordinate Key Activities in the ASEAN [Enabling] Masterplan 2025. She added that the CDPO intends to seek cooperation with the CHRC and AICHR-Cambodia in the implementation of its projects, especially those related to the dissemination and mainstreaming of health services for persons with disabilities throughout the country.
In response, Her Excellency Ouch Nipon commended Ms Mak Monika for her efforts in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities in Cambodia and said that human rights are inter-sectoral and that the CHRC, which is the staff of the Royal Government for protecting and promoting human rights, works closely with relevant institutions, diplomats and civil society organisations at all times. The Royal Government pays attention to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, launching National Disability Strategic Plan and other action plans. She added that the CHRC is pleased to welcome the cooperation of various civil society organisations as well as the CDPO for the purpose of further promoting human rights as well as the rights of persons with disabilities in Cambodia.
