CHRC Requests Swedish Institute for Human Rights to Review Agreement to Sell Gripen Fighter Jets to Thailand

This request is made by the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) noting Sweden is one of the countries that consistently prioritises human rights and peace, serving as a global example in these areas. However, the CHRC is of the view that reaching an agreement to sell fighter jets to Thailand during the ongoing border conflict with Cambodia is an unsuitable action and may lead to greater risks and harm to innocent civilians and threaten Cambodia’s territorial integrity. In addition, this move contradicts the principles of the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, etc.

Based on the aforesaid grounds, the CHRC calls on the Swedish Institute for Human Rights to:
– firmly reject the deal to sell fighter jets to Thailand given the current situation,
– urge the Swedish government to re-evaluate this agreement by considering the potential human rights risks, and
– support peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms instead of escalating military tensions.
