HE Sreang Chenda and Mr.Duong Kosal Attended AICHR Event
Kuala Lumpur: HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) and Cambodia’s Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), assigned HE Sreang Chenda and Mr. Duong Kosal, CHRC officer, to attended the launch of a research paper on the right to peace and an AICHR workshop on the interaction between conflict and human rights: pathways and approaches to peace within ASEAN on 1-2 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This event was held to formally introduce the AICHR research paper on the right to peace and to create a forum for dialogue, [allowing participants] to exchange valuable insights and experiences related to peace theory and the process of peacebuilding following past conflicts.
During the event, HE Sreang Chenda shared Cambodia’s experience in building and maintaining peace up to the present time. In this sense, he emphasised the win-win policy implemented by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, which resulted in Cambodia achieving peace and full territorial unity in late 1998. This peace has endured for approximately 26 years, marking the longest peaceful period in Cambodia’s 500-year history. Sustaining peace over time requires national reconciliation, justice, and development that is both sustainable and inclusive. Furthermore, he urged all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering a spirit of love and safeguarding the current peace, warning against losing it and facing the difficult task of rebuilding. Should conflicts arise, peaceful resolutions must be pursued through dialogue, negotiation, or established regional and international legal frameworks.
