On the morning of Wednesday, 3 May 2023, His Excellency Keo Remy, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister and President of the CHRC, presided over a meeting with 1,721 people who are staying for treatment and rehabilitation at Orkas Knhom Centre, with the participation of His Excellency Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, leaders, members and volunteer lawyers of the CHRC.
The purpose of this visit is to monitor the actual living situation of the victims who are staying for treatment and rehabilitation in this centre, with a focus on the exercise of their basic rights, health care, food supply, vocational training and rehabilitation in order for them to integrate into society.
His Excellency Keo Remy also commended the Centre’s leaders, officials, and treating physicians for their hard work and dedication to managing, caring for and treating the victims. He advised all leaders, officials and treating physicians to pay more attention to the living situation, treatment and integration of the victims, especially to adhere to and comply with the national and international human rights regulations. In addition, he also recalled what happened in the past where one country wanted to invade and control the other by using drugs as a means of infiltration into destroying the health of the citizens of that country. Therefore, he advised those who are staying for treatment and rehabilitation in the centre to strive to transform themselves into good citizens with good health, wisdom, good mentality and physical fitness in order for them to participate in building, defending and developing their nation. Furthermore, after the 2023 SEA Games are over, he will offer an ITF coach/coaches to help train those in the centre so that they are healthy and physically fit and able to integrate into society and to be reunited with their families.
In the end, His Excellency Keo Remy expressed his gratitude to Samdech Techo and Samdech Kittipritbandit for taking care of the well-being of all people at all times, especially health and the right to life through appeals for vaccines, and providing the people with free vaccination, in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and also to His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and His Excellency the Governor of Phnom Penh for paying attention to the management and better living of the victims in the centre.
