On the afternoon of Tuesday, 19 September 2023, Her Excellency Long Sonita, Vice-President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), representing His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, and President of the CHRC, attended a meeting to provide feedback on the report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at the Tbong Khmum provincial meeting hall, Ministry of Interior.
The meeting was chaired by Her Excellency Chou Bun Eng, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, and Permanent Vice-Chair of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking, with the purpose of discussing, reviewing and providing comments, in preparation for giving feedback on the OHCHR report published on Tuesday, 29 August 2023. The OHCHR report shows groundless estimates and clear arguments that 100,000 people in Cambodia could be in a situation where they are forced to engage in illegal online scams, from illegal gambling to Crypto scams. In the meantime, the report also lists other countries such as Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines and Thailand that have been identified as destinations.
