His Excellency Keo Remy, chaired a meeting of the inter-ministerial delegation on Cambodia’s Universal Periodic Review
On the afternoon of Friday, 19 April 2024, His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, chaired a meeting of the inter-ministerial delegation on Cambodia’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), 4th Cycle, with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Cambodia (OHCHR). The purpose of this meeting was to share good experiences and best practices as the Cambodian delegation is going to participate in the UPR, Fourth Cycle, on 8 May 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Following the Senior Minister’s welcoming remarks, the OHCHR representative stated that Cambodia is an outstanding and successful country in preparing human rights reports, to which Cambodia is obliged, and actively participates in constructive dialogue with the United Nations Human Rights Mechanisms. Cambodia has had best practices of collaborating with civil society organisations to promote and protect human rights, including the process of writing human rights reports. In addition, during the meeting, the OHCHR representative summed up and responded to questions about the UPR mechanism’s process and principles.
The meeting shared good experiences in engaging with this mechanism and discussed the delegation’s preparations such as document review and other arrangements to ensure a success in the UPR, 4th Cycle, which is to utilise this opportunity to present an accurate portrayal of Cambodia and its human rights efforts to the United Nations member states and the international community.
In summary, the meeting was conducted in a cordial and receptive environment, leading to satisfying outcomes for the delegation.
