His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), Chaired Workshop on Dissemination of National Report on the Implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)
(Stung Treng province): A workshop to disseminate the National Report on the Implementation of the ICESCR was held under the chairmanship of His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the CHRC, on Monday morning, 24 June 2024, at Stung Treng Provincial Hall.
The Senior Minister stated that economic, social and cultural rights are fundamental human rights, among other important rights that are protected and promoted as enshrined in the ICESCR. At the same time, the Royal Government of Cambodia has set out policies, strategic plans and sectoral measures to ensure the promotion of economic, social and cultural rights, as well as the implementation of this International Covenant.
The purposes of this workshop are to:
– widely disseminate to the sub-national level the efforts along with major achievements of the Royal Government in protecting and promoting human rights in Cambodia;
– demonstrate the regular implementation of the Royal Government’s international obligations in the name of a member state of the United Nations to submit the report on the implementation of the ICESCR;
– disseminate the protection process and concluding observations of the National Report on the Implementation of the ICESCR; and
– raise sub-national units’ awareness of the ICESCR and encourage their participation.
The workshop was organised by the CHRC, in collaboration with the Stung Treng Provincial Administration and with the participation of representatives of the Provincial Court of First Instance, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Gendarmerie, the Provincial Administration, the Provincial prison, the provincial departments and units, and representatives of the districts.
Finally, His Excellency Keo Remy thanked the Stung Treng Provincial Administrations for their welcome and cooperation in organising the workshop to disseminate this important national report. He also instructed all participants to be attentive and ask any questions related to this national report, including questions on human rights in general.
