Kandal province: On the morning of 26 February 2025, HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), accompanied by the dignitaries and civil servants of the CHRC, visited the New Smile of Hope Children Association located in Cheung Keb village, Cheung Keb commune, Kandal Stung district, Kandal province and donated some money, food supplies and medication. The money and food supplies were donated by philanthropists and from the Charity Half Marathon for the Commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of International Human Rights Day, 10 December, held on 8 December 2024 in Battambang province.
It should be noted that this is the third time that HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, has donated money and food supplies directly to this association in order to help alleviate its burden and also to ensure the basic rights and freedoms of the children living there. In addition, since March 2023, he has donated 150 kg of rice per month to the association. The relationship between the CHRC and this association began with efforts to safeguard the rights of children facing numerous challenges. As these children are without family support or hope, the CHRC has helped to find a place for them to live, enabling them to build a promising future.
Speaking on that occasion, HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, expressed his appreciation to the association for its significant contribution to the promotion and protection of children’s fundamental rights and freedoms, especially the right to both physical and mental health, including the right to education and so on. At the same time, he also praised the proper management and no violation of the rights of children living there. Moreover, he stated that when children living there with health problems, they can reach out to the CHRC team for assistance in getting them to the hospital promptly.
Finally, HE Keo Remy, Senior Minister, instructed the management and staff of the association to continue to take care of children and to absolutely avoid any wrongdoing or violation of their rights. In addition, he called on all philanthropists to support this association as well as other orphanages, which is a gesture of humanitarian spirit, culture, sharing and participation in the promotion of children’s rights.
