Her Excellency Long Sonita, Vice-President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), representing His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, and President of the CHRC, attended the “12th Human Rights Dialogue between Cambodia and Japan” held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on Thursday, 29 August 2023.

His Excellency An Sokkhoeurn, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and His Excellency HASHIMOTO Naofumi, Ambassador for Human Rights and International Peace and Stability, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, co-chaired the dialogue, with the participation of the representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the CHRC.

[During] the dialogue, [both sides] raised in-depth discussions including the following six human rights topics:
1. Free and fair elections
2. Freedom of expression, assembly and association
3. Freedom of the press and the right to information
4. Legal and judicial reforms and legal aid programme
5. Protection of rights of vulnerable groups (women, children, people with disability and LGBT people)
6. Peacekeeping operations and other humanitarian assistance initiatives, and collaboration within international area, including at the Human Rights Council.

Her Excellency Long Sonita representing the CHRC presented the following topics: (1) freedom of expression, assembly and association, (2) protection of rights of vulnerable groups, and (3) collaboration within international area, including at the Human Rights Council.

During the 12th Human Rights Dialogue between Cambodia-Japan, the two sides focused on each of the aforesaid topics, including evolution, efforts, progress, achievements, challenges and ongoing measures of the both sides.
