The Khmer Social Development Association “Khmer Markets Association” was officially inaugurated on the morning of Thursday, 29 February 2024, under the presidency of His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC). The event took place at Sorya Centre Market with the participation of Excellencies, Oknhas, ladies and gentlemen, as well as traders, artisans, producers, service providers who are members of the Khmer Social Development Association.

On that occasion, His Excellency Svay Sovanrith, President of the Khmer Social Development Association, stated that the Khmer Social Development Association was established in 1999 when the country had just ended the civil war; under the leadership [and] the implementation of the Win-Win Policy of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the country still faced difficulties in almost all areas; at that time, both the Royal Government, the authorities at all levels and the people had been putting physical, mental and spiritual effort into building the nation and each family free from poverty, creating more jobs, increasing people’s household income and socio-economic development. In order to contribute to the Royal Government, the people and the society, a group of young people coming from the same source of training and having just graduated with a Bachelor of Law from the Faculty of Law and Economics, Boeung Trabek (at that time) decided to form an association called the “Khmer Social Development Association.” In September 2023, the association started to launch its project called “Project to Support Entrepreneurs and Khmer Products.” The project aims to mobilise up to 103 community farmers (such as fruit and vegetable growing community, animal husbandry community, processing community), artisans, traders and service providers, to work together in the spirit of unity, to overcome difficulties and challenges with knowledge, skills, capital and experience to overcome all obstacles.

His Excellency Keo Remy, Senior Minister, CHRC President, urged all citizens to support Cambodian products, promoting, using and purchasing Cambodian products made by Cambodians, with the aim of strengthening and increasing family income, creating local jobs and reducing the migration of the Cambodian people, as well as contributing to strengthening the national economic foundation with the Royal Government of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly led by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
